It's A Smalls World After All. More Fresh Finds.

Nothing substantial to report here. I just thought I'd take a few moments to share with you some of the smalls I picked up recently. I thought it was a pretty decent haul. What say you?

Fresh Find: DUX Coffee Table

We picked up this Swedish coffee table on a recent trip to see family in another part of the state. It happened to be at a little thrift/antique store in a town on the way. We actually had visited this store once before and were able to come away with some pretty great pieces of furniture. Given that we were in the neighborhood, we decided we'd try our luck once more.

Focusing on the Bedroom: Kent Coffey, Nine Drawer Perspecta Dresser

As you can probably tell from previous posts here on Oh My Mod, the pieces that we have picked over the years have been aimed at our living room. While this has provided us with the means to put together a pretty great living area, it has left our bedroom looking rather neglected. Recent acquisitions of significant value have been targeted as items for trade that will hopefully address our less than stellar bedroom furniture. But that doesn't mean that I have stopped looking on my own. Oh no siree. I'm always on the lookout and I am happy to report that I recently netted us this nine drawer dresser from the Kent Coffey Perspecta line.

Fresh Find: Adrian Pearsall Dining Chairs

Feast your eyes on the most recent, and oh so sweet find from the Oh My Mod house! It's OK, you can blink a couple times and rub your eyes if necessary. But let us assure you, there is nothing wrong with your computer screen. Do not attempt to adjust the picture, because we are controlling this transmission and it is most definitely filled with fantastic mid century modern dining chairs. Adrian Pearsall for Craft Associates (1613-C) to be exact!

Diamonds in the Rough: The vintage, mid century modern variety.

This is a bit of a past meets present post. A few months back, I was driving around the city while K was away for the weekend. At the time, I had been in another small slump as far as finding anything of substance. I had visited all the normal haunts and even resorted to stopping by a few garage sales, but it looked like I was destined to have another fruitless hunt. I had just decided to give up and head back home when I happened to spot something out of the corner of my eye in the backyard of an unkempt house. I couldn't be sure, but I suspected I had seen a potential treasure.

Spotted: Free, Retro Record Cabinet/Console

I spotted this next to a dumpster behind a local thrift store and had to take a quick shot to share with those of you who might be interested in re-purposing this retro record console that has been stripped of its speakers. This could be a quick fix MODerators. There are tons of options for covering up the spots that previously held the speakers or you could cover the back and build in some quick shelves. Voila! Instant TV stand with vintage flair.

Mid Century Smalls: A Fun Fix for a Mid Century "Junkie"

When it comes to hunting for vintage and mid century items, I've typically stuck to searching for the larger items and forsaking the smalls. That's not to say that I have no interest in smaller items, but bigger ticket pieces have always seemed easier for me to find. I've know of other blogs and local shops who have fantastic smalls, but since I'm not a regular visitor of estate or garage sales, I figured my time would be better spent on the vintage sofas, lounge chairs, dining sets and what not. Not to mention the fact that space is already pretty limited here at the Oh My Mod house, so piling up a bunch of little odds and ends may not be the greatest idea for a happy home. It's far too easy for a vintage lover to get sucked in by the charm of smalls, so for quite some time I told myself that I wouldn't get caught up in that game.

Well...I guess I failed.

Wow. Are we horrible bloggers or what? Actually, to be fair, we are pretty good at doing the stuff that merits having a blog. (At least we think so.) I mean, we do pretty much all of the things that other mid century bloggers do, right? Let's visit the checklist:

A Haggis in Oklahoma

It's been a crazy busy month for us, so we're just now getting to tell you about one of our most exciting activities during the month of February. What was that you ask? Skydiving? A two week vacation to Hawaii? Nope - haggis. Making haggis, that is. Or, as I should note, a very Americanized haggis. Ever since moving back to the states in 2009, and going back to visit last March, we've been dreaming of our favorite Scottish dish and telling ourselves we would make it some day. So, as Burns Night 2012 approached, we pulled out the old Google, ran a search for recipes and local butchers, and realized Americans are the pickiest eaters ever.

Fresh Find: Framed, Mid Century Era New York City Print

Let's keep things rolling by moving on to another recent find, shall we? Shortly after picking up our C. Jeré inspired bridge art, I came across a listing for a mid century inspired print of the New York City skyline. Mid Century and NYC? Say no more, I'm there. Well, kinda.

Fresh Find: Danish Modern Tulip Floor Lamp - The Tale of an Estate Sale Virgin in Tulsa Oklahoma

Quality mid century modern lighting solutions can be hard to come by. At least that seems to be the case for me. So, when I came across an ad for an upcoming estate sale containing a couple of mid century, danish inspired lamps right here in Tulsa I knew I had to act quick if I wanted a shot at picking them up for myself.

Despite the break in updates here on the blog, we have actually been busy working away on various projects in and around the house. We'll have more on those in the coming weeks, but in the meantime I'll take a few moments to share one of my latest finds.

Dutch Oven Extravaganza: Succulent Braised Pork

Delicious looking, yes? L bought me the most amazing gift for Christmas this year - a dutch oven. Yes, in true married person fashion, I've started asking for kitchen supplies on major gift-giving occasions such as this. No lie - I asked for a programmable thermostat for my birthday. I didn't get it, but I was totally serious when I said I wanted one. It's still on the list of acceptable items to receive for celebratory events. Anyway, back to the dutch oven. I got one, it's beautiful, and it has led to some amazing dishes. Like this beautiful braised tenderloin. Be jealous. 

Fresh Find: Vintage Eyeball Arc Lamps (For Sale)

 As I have explained before, mid century lighting holds a special place in my heart. Interior and exterior lighting from the 1950s and 1960s has always fascinated me and I enjoy whenever I come across authentic pieces. Mid century lighting/accessories are great way to accent a modern home and they help create a certain ambiance through their style and luminescence.

Did I mention it has been a good week? First I found and bought that magnificent, mustard colored mid century chair and then I was also fortunate enough to pick up this vintage Eames Soft Pad Executive Chair by Herman Miller!

Fresh Find: Golden Mid Century Chair

It's been a nice week here for us here at Oh My Mod. We recently wrapped up our living room project (photos of the finished product coming in the next couple of days), the sun has been shining and we've also been lucky enough to snag a few great pieces to add to our home. While some of those pieces will be made available to the rest of you Oklahomans/Tulsans with a passion for mid century furniture and decor, the piece above will be staying right here with us. Here's the thing. Each year as we embark upon the laborious process of deciding what to get everyone for Christmas, we're confronted with not just one stage of terrible decisions, but two. First, what can we get our relatives that they would actually want? And two, what kind of paper will we wrap their present in?

Mid Century Themed Greeting Cards

Ahh yes, the holidays are upon us. We all love the holidays, right? It's that special time of year where moms, dads, husbands and wives scurry through the streets and shops searching for the must-have gift of the year so they can express their appreciation to friends, family members and general acquaintances. Good times for all, right? Well, almost all. The holiday season is also the time for procrastinators such as myself drive to ourselves mad by putting these heartfelt decisions off until "tomorrow". This undoubtedly leads to excessive amounts of stress, indecision and in some cases loss of hair and/or appetite. As you might expect, I am once again tip-toeing the line of procrastination on another fairly common holiday task. What might that be you ask? Well I'm talking about greeting cards of course.

Deck the Halls

Remember when we said it would be another week before we'd do anything in the living room? Well, we totally lied. With Christmas quickly approaching, I decided the floors are dry enough to put up our wonderfully pre-lit and easy-to-assemble tree. No worries, we put down a dish towel under the tree stand to make sure no painted concrete was harmed in the process. Our little horned owl kept watch and made sure everything was done in a super-cautious manner. Also, we won't share picks quite yet, but we may or may not have laid down some of our carpet tiles to get a feel how they will look (and then promptly picked them back up to avoid damaging the not-quite-yet-cured concrete). Our thoughts? They're going to look awesome.

Color Story

We're officially terrible bloggers. In fact, we're so terrible, we're just now posting about something that happened almost two months ago. Remember long, long ago when we said we had plans for changing the living room color? Well, it's been done - in fact, it was my birthday present to myself. Literally. I woke up and said, "L, we're painting the living room today and it's happening because it's my birthday and we do what I say on my birthday." Mind you, it wasn't really a "today" type task - a 15x30 room with 11' ceilings does not make for a simple task. Achieving a cleaner, more modern living area with such a large space can be tough. But, as the pic illustrates, we decided a good place to start was by opting for a more stark palette to simplify things.
